SINAPSI

As part of the residency project in the Friuli region, Alice and Ahad have been working in contact with the milling sector. By getting to know Molino Moras and the sector’s production chain, and by coming into contact with the architectural and landscape heritage of the ancient river milling industry, the artists became aware of an invaluable heritage of practices, legends and reconciliation rituals. Columns made of a mixture of flour marked the performance space in via Manin, recalling the cathedral where Friulian millers used to gather in ancient times in search of a patron saint for their products. Through the poetic act of scratching the columns, the artists, both on stage, make tangible (in the smell, with the dust that permeates every surface and preserves fragments of memory) the inexorability of the historical movement that has invested the region between wars, famines and colonisations. Elements of hope and the relationship with the divine appear in the performance through the presence of a flying pigeon: an emissary of Providence according to the legend of the Saint.
