Albero a Gomiti is a kinetic installation created during a residency program in Tarvisio, whose particular geographical location was the fil rouge of our research. Albero a Gomiti is an engine designed to move and mix the lands of Italy, Slovenia and Austria, the countries that border this city. A land that has been divided, re-divided and changed many times over the course of history, with many consequences. Tarvisio is a land that has changed its identity and definition many times, despite its fixed stay in a physical place.
Borders are not physical places, but decisions created and fixed by linguistic agreements, abstractions, abstraction, established between states as a result of conventions, invasions, conflicts and wars. Albero a Gomiti is a project that focuses on the non-physicality of the border and its absence in nature. A single linguistic act and decisions agreed by the systems of power can create and cause concrete effects and consequences on the cultural identity of people and a place. Tarvisio directs our gaze towards a mixture of lands that, over time, has led to the creation of a single fertile soil, whose elements have accumulated and positively contaminated. A land that is the result of a thousand years of history stratified, an archive of memories and cultures that have given rise to new dynamics, relationships and attractions.

Albero a Gomiti is divided into two contrasting but interdependent moments. Two moments related to cause and effect. A rigid and mechanical lower part moves a transparent platform within which the soils collected in the three border countries are moving, shifting and mixing. The Power is the underlying force that moves and defines everything.
There are situations that are forcibly activated by political systems, but sometimes the consequences are left to nature to settle, often resolving themselves in interesting contexts. Albero a Gomiti shows the hidden parts and the dynamics of socio-political systems.
