Starting from a research residency in a border territory, the work investigates the dispositifs that construct national identity—borders, flags, symbols, and beliefs—questioning their political, cultural, and imaginative nature. Within a context historically marked by separation and marginality, the project proposes a reflection on possible alternative models of belonging, capable of embracing complexity, ambiguity, and stratification.

A central element of the research is dust, a material recurring in our practice, here adopted as a metaphor for a hybrid cultural identity. By its very nature composed of a heterogeneous multiplicity of elements, dust becomes both image and substance of an identity that is not monolithic, but porous, unstable, and in constant becoming.

Through the reformulation of the flag—the political and identity symbol par excellence—the project challenges the idea of national purity and coherence, proposing instead an atmospheric and stratified image of belonging. The flag is no longer an emblem of separation, but a space of coexistence: a possible open manifesto that invites us to rethink the future as a collective construction, grounded in multiplicity and in the strength of the heterogeneous.
